THE HAVEN FOUNDATION
EDUCATION AND DISPUTE APPEALS
TERMS OF REFERENCE
A.
OVERVIEW
AND PURPOSE
The
Educational Disputes and Appeals Committee (the “Committee”) is responsible to
the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Haven Foundation (the “Foundation”).
If management
becomes aware of a complaint or report of inappropriate behaviour against a
faculty member, assistant, or intern, management has the responsibility to
investigate and, where warranted, recommend appropriate action to the Executive
Director.
If the
investigation or remedial action results in an outcome that is satisfactory to
the parties, the issue will be considered closed, and the process would be
complete. However, if the investigation report or the remedy is not
acceptable to any party immediately involved, there shall be an appeal process to
this body.
Any other
decisions by the management of The Haven that have a potential or actual
negative effect on a member of the Faculty, intern or assistant and that have
not been successfully addressed by the Director of Education, the Director of
Programs, and/or the Executive Director may be appealed to this body.
B.
MEMBERSHIP
AND ATTENDANCE AT MEETINGS
This body is
chaired by a Board member who is not a faculty member or a member of the
Education and Standards Committee. The Board will appoint a roster of six
senior faculty who will each serve for a two year term.
C.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chair and
any two members, selected by lot, will hear the appeal and deliver a binding
decision on the dispute.
